Wilberforces New Zealand

Biography

It is from Maurice Gee’s eponymous children’s novel UNDER THE MOUNTAIN that WILBERFORCES draw their name – shape-shifting aliens that have lain dormant for thousands of years, crafting their plan beneath the five volcanoes of the Auckland isthmus... Wilberforces play a hybrid of jangly flying nun pop/grunge meets DC Hardcore and Jamaican Dancehall. They are influenced by bands such as Suicide, Slint, Pere Ubu, Hollow Grinders, 3Ds, The Fall and Fugazi, and solo artists such as Fela Kuti, Mulatu Asahi, The Bug and Warrior Queen.
